Removing Tough Stains from Clothing Can Be Easy

Stains – they’re just a part of life sometimes, it seems.  You can’t seem to avoid them, especially when you have kids.  And no matter how great your house cleaning skills might be, a stain on your shirt is going to make you look less than presentable to guests and even to your family.  New Jersey families are not alone in wanting to find out how to remove the most common stains NOW.

Got Grease Stains to Remove?

No matter how healthy you eat, chances are likely that you will get a grease stain during the cooking process.  Whether it’s olive oil from the pan or a small bit of low fat margarine, grease often seems to jump onto fabric – and it doesn’t want to let go too easily.  But while grease seems to be an impossible stain, it actually is quite simple to remove.  First things first, it will help you to take a sponge and slowly rub the stain from the center to the outer edges.  This sponge should be dipped in some sort of stain remover product or regular dish soap works well too (dish soap breaks up grease in the sink and it can do so for your clothing too).  If you’re not sure the stain is going to come out, let the stain dry, then apply the soap or stain remover again before putting into the regular wash.

Other Kinds of Stains

Grease is generally kept separate in stain removal advice because it’s chemically different from other stains – like coffee, juice, ink, etc.  To clean these stains, you just need to sponge the area with cool water as quickly as possible.  This will ensure that the stain does not set in.  Run cool water on the stain, but not too much as you don’t want to spread the stain to other parts of the clothing.  You can then let the item sit in cool water overnight and blot the stain with laundry detergent in the morning if the stain hasn’t released yet.

Basic Tips and Tricks That Work

A few quick tips to make your stain removal easier:

  • Find out what the stain is first so you know how to treat it correctly.
  • Treat stains as quickly as possible. The longer you wait, the harder the stain might be to get out.
  • Blot, don’t rub at the stain.  A sponge is best.
  • Always use cold or cool water.
