Time for a deep cleaning now that winter is gone

Back

Now that winter is over, it's time to warm up and head back outdoors. Well, in all honesty some of those winter months spent cooped up in the house may not have been the cleanest. Staying bundled up under blankets while eating snacks and watching movies with the kids probably hasn't left the living room clean and sparkly. With winter out of the way, and spring steadily approaching, it's time to get out the brooms and dusters and do some deep spring cleaning.

One of the first things that should come to mind when cleaning after winter is dusting. Dusting may not seem too awfully important right now, but just wait until allergy season begins. It is well known that once spring has arrived, the pollen isn't far around the corner. The best way to begin dusting is to start with the higher places in a home, such as the tops of bookshelves and televisions. Both of these places are excellent for housing dust and grime and should be cleaned accordingly. Another area of the home that accumulates dust rather well is the laundry room. Many people don't consider the laundry room to be a place of formidable dust and allergens, but in reality it is one of the worst places for them. Pulling lint from the dryer, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning the coils are all great ways to get the laundry room clean this year.

Another type of cleaning that can never be understated is steam cleaning. One of the biggest dirt traps in any home is the carpet. Vacuuming and steam cleaning are an essential key in the deep cleaning of any home. However, for steam cleaning to be effective, one must first vacuum the carpeted area. Once the carpet has been vacuumed the steam cleaning can begin. There are many different types of steam cleaners available. There are steam cleaners which use harsh chemicals, some which use a soapy solution, and some that simply pressure clean. Pressure cleaning is the best method, as it has been tried and tested throughout time. As well as being effective in cleaning floors pressure cleaning also sterilizes while it cleans.

During the winter months most people are not going on top of the house to clean out the gutters, or clear debris from the yard. This simple fact alone makes cleaning out the gutters and yard a very important part of deep spring cleaning. During the winter branches, dirt, and leaves can clog a drainage pipe and cause a multitude of problems. When the April showers come, the rain gutters better be cleared and able to handle it. As for the yard debris goes, branches break during winter and fall into the yard needing to be cleared away. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by distinguishing a pile for branches, twigs, and other debris from the gutters and the yard. This is essential because most neighborhoods have a bulk trash pickup day and will haul away the extra mess free of charge.
