3/19/10 Spring Cleaning – Polishing Your Home

Back

In our first installment about spring cleaning, we gave you tips for removing lingering odors from your house. Now that your home is feeling cleaner, you can start polishing your abode and making it truly sparkle for the coming warm months.

Polishing your home goes beyond cleaning the chrome and shining the brass. It involves making each portion of the house as neat, clean and organized as possible. You might want to call a reliable New Jersey maid service like Maid for Mommy to help—it’s a big job in even the smallest of homes!

Start by sprucing up your wardrobes and dressers. Put away all but two or three winter outfits to make room for spring clothes. Tuck a dryer sheet in with each winter bin to keep your clothes fresh throughout the warm summer months. Launder each load of spring clothes before putting it away, and take the time to neatly fold and organize your drawers and closets. That way, you’ll set a great foundation for the rest of the year. While you’re in the bedroom, have your domestic cleaning services wash all of your carpets, rugs, bed linens and draperies.

Next, move on to the living room and dining room. Replace dark, heavy linens and décor with light fabrics and bright colors that pop with alongside the bursting buds outside. Your house will feel airy and light, no longer dark and warm. Since these are the areas where you spend the most time, it’s important that they set a positive tone for the rest of your home.

The kitchen is perhaps the most daunting task. Start with your pantry and refrigerator. Throw away any old, unusable foods that are no longer acceptable to eat. Make a large grocery list and freshen your supplies the next time you shop. Clean the oven by following your unit’s instructions. Always wear gloves when handling oven cleaner, and keep an extra bottle on hand to scrub your pots and pans. Place these items in a garbage bag outside with the contents of the second bottle of oven cleaner, letting them sit overnight. Wash thoroughly the next morning to enjoy nearly-new cookware!

Go through each kitchen cabinet and clean all of your utensils (even if you never use them). This will eliminate any grime or bacteria that might be growing out of your view. The same goes for cups, plates and other items you use on a daily basis. Continue organizing and scrubbing as you go.

Finally, give your bathroom a nice spring scrub and makeover. Remove mold that is stuck on the grout, and put some elbow grease into making your tub and shower sparkle. If you have housekeeping services, allow them to tackle this job. They are trained professionals who will handle it best!

Once you’ve finished sparkling and cleaning the inside of your home, you can move on to the outdoors. That will be covered in the third installment of Maid for Mommy’s spring cleaning series next week. Until then, keep polishing your home until it really shines!
